Dr.Shakeel-ur-Rahman is a famous Urdu writer and scholar of India. His father Khan Bahadur Muhammad Jan was a noted Government lawyer in British India. Dr.Shakeel received his education from Patna University, B.A. (Hons.) First Class, M.A. ,First Class First (awarded Patna University Gold Medal)and D.Litt.He remained attached to University of Kashmir as Professor and Head, Dept. of Urdu. He also served as Vice-Chancellor of University of Bihar & University of Kashmir and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.His 25 books have been published so far.He has been blessed with "Ghalib Award", "Urdu Academy Award", "National Award" from India and "Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi Award" from Pakistan.Dr.Shakeel-ur-Rahman has written more than 50 plays for the Stage,TV and Radio.His grandson Tanwir Phool is a noted author/poet of Pakistan writing in Urdu and English.He has written a valuable article in quarterly "Khayaal",Karachi(Pakistan) about Dr.Shakeel-ur-Rahman.[1]
